These are some of the photos we took at Gettysburg and the surrounding environs. The rain finally eased up and while it was still cold we were able to tour the Battlefield before heading off to DC. Gettysburg always fills me with awe and makes me wonder what it was like for my Great Grandfather, George Leander Barnes, who fought in the Civil War with the 18th Regiment of Ohio Infantry. They weren't at Gettysburg but I imagine they fought under similar conditions as they worked their way from Cincinnati to Nashville and on to Atlanta and Savannah.
The ride to the DC area and our campground in Fredericksburg, VA was only 165.8 miles so it was a relatively easy day on the road. But then we hit DC traffic and the last 50 or 60 miles was stop and go traffic jam.
